supporting communities, local agriculture, farmers, and artisan food producers
To educate and engage the public about nutrition, sustainable agriculture, and the economic value to our area of buying locally grown food and locally sourced products directly from growers and artisans. In this effort, the Davis Farmers Market Alliance (DFMA), a not-for-profit 501(c) (3) organization, connects and supports communities, local agriculture, farmers, and artisan food producers.
To educate the public about the nutritional and economic benefits of buying locally grown food directly from farmers—The success of the small family farm depends on consumers who understand the value of local agriculture. The DFMA stresses initiatives to enhance educational outreach to the public.
To support the ideals of sustainable agriculture— We create and nurture alliances with community businesses, hospitals, civic groups, and other public institutions to promote locally sourced food. We are committed to quality, and we work diligently to support a productive market for participating farmers and artisan food producers.
To facilitate the sharing of farmers market experience and expertise—Leaders and members of the Davis Farmers Market Association will educate others about market management and public engagement at farmers markets in other communities.
